Adults

Overview

After their migration, lobsters generally settle on deep water reefs, around 35 – 75 m (20 to 40 fathoms) deep. Based on the recapture of tagged white lobsters, following their migration they will settle on offshore reefs but will not become sexually mature and mate until their second breeding season (if they undergo a second migration, in November/December, they will not mate until the following June/July, ~16 months later). During the adult phase of the western rock lobster’s life cycle, lobsters are considered residential, displaying only small nightly foraging movements, with no further large-scale migrations occurring.
